- A full length, sleeveless robe of crimson velvet, lined with white silk. The cape collar and trim are of miniver pure, the white fur from the winter coat of the ermine (stoat). The robe fastens centre front with a small tab and hook closure. The robe, which sweeps to a train of eighteen inches at the back, was worn over a full length dress of white satin. The robe was worn (with HOYFM. 318.1996A - D)) by Baroness MacDermott, at the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II on June 2nd 1953. The robe and accessories were designed by Norman Hartnell of London. Instructions as to the wearing of the robe and accessories were issued by The Earl Marshall's Office, London, in December 1952.
