1908 - Orange sash presented to Brother Kee by his ‘brethren’ in ‘The Rising Sons of India’ lodge, which was formed within 1st Battalion, Royal Irish Rifles. The presentation was made on the regiment’s departure from garrison duty in India in 1908. Sash has a woven rectangle with silver wine border, star 5 pointed, serpent or staff, and ladder. Loyal Orange Lodge 703 ‘The Rising Sons of India’ is not to be confused with Loyal Orange Lodge 703 which sat at Magheraknock Orange Hall, Ballynahinch, Co. Down. The former operated under a military warrant, which was issued by the Grand Lodge of England. In 1909 they were based in Maymyo (now Myanmar) in Burma. When the men from Loyal Orange Lodge 703 ‘The Rising Sons of India’ returned home after the war with the warrant, it could no longer be used by them in Belfast and a new warrant was issued by the Grand Lodge of Ireland. The new warrant issued was No. 1300, and Loyal Orange Lodge 1300 operates in Sandy Row in Belfast.

- National Museums NI
National Museums NI holds over a million objects in the collection, as well as this we manage the records and associated images for each object through a working database. The national collection has been almost 200 years in the making, and we recognise that thinking about collecting and collections has evolved over this time and continues to evolve. As a result, some of our records may contain language and views that we now consider offensive and unacceptable, for example, reflecting racist attitudes. We are committed to addressing these issues, and to reviewing and updating our records accordingly. Working with researchers, communities and academic partners we are learning more about the stories behind objects, and we are committed to sharing these with our audiences. We welcome feedback.
