Description

This volunteer coat is reputed to have been worn by the United Irishmen James Hope at the battle of Antrim on the 7th June 1798. The coat is fashioned from dark green material and lined with fawn. The Edge, lapels, collars, cuffs and pocket flaps are faced with cream cloth and ornamented with silver braid. There are 44 plain brass buttons. The insurgents of the 1798 rebellion were far from wearing a unified uniform. Some wore old uniforms from Volunteer days, such as this one.
