Belfast - Description
- William Swanston's sash that he wore on Ulster Covenant Day, 28th September for the signing of the Covenant. Perhaps Swanston played a 'stewart-type' role on the day. William Swanston (1841-1932), who earned his living in the linen trade, was a prominent member of BNFC (first to receive Commemoration Medal in 1923) and BNHPS. He was a geologist, collaborating with Professor Lapworth, Birmingham University, on working on graptolites (elusive fossils).
