Description
German matchbox holder inscribed on front with a crown surrounded by a laurel wreath border with the words Gott Mit Uns (God With Us). German soldiers also had Gott mit uns inscribed on their helmets in the First World War, To the Germans it was a rallying cry. Scratched on front by hand 'La Bassee.' Also on 'La Bassee' on scratched on reverse with a cross. La Bassee is a northern area in France, the battle of La Bassée happened 10 October-2 November 1914.
