Conflict Textiles

Our collaboration with Conflict Textiles began with an Arpillera Doll Making Workshop in 2017 and has since led to the creative exchange of objects and ideas. Curator Roberta Bacic has described this collaboration as innovative, noting that “… textiles are seldom recognised or included in political contexts”.

We regularly include pieces from the Conflict Textiles collection in the Troubles and Beyond exhibition at the Ulster Museum and our recent acquisition of these 14 pieces for our own collection enables us to develop further interpretive opportunities. This will allow visitors to engage with a range of themes relating to violence and conflict, human rights violations, poverty, oppression and environmental issues through the powerful medium of textiles.
