Title: Paul Rodgers (Carrickfergus Shipyard)
Scope and content: Paul Rodgers was born in 1834, and in 1852 he began an apprenticeship with Carrickfergus shipyard, being promoted to foreman before becoming the owner in 1870. He was a pioneer in the move from wooden to iron-built ships. The last remaining Rodger’s-built vessel, The Result, is held by National Museums NI at the Ulster Transport Museum.
Contents include: stock books and receipts; various bills of sale for ships including: Richard Fisher (1889), Katie Swyny (1889), Elizabeth Ellen Fisher; a declaration of ownership; stock pages (1891); receipts and summaries of stock (late 19th c.); empty, stamped and addressed envelopes dated (1891); various business correspondence letters from Soho Engine Works (1890); various cash flow sheets to Paul Rodgers; receipts from Belfast and Northern Counties Railways Company; agreement for SS Victoria; Red Bay Pier workers' log book; SS Jasper particulars from Lloyds; ledgers, and balance sheets and a colour drawing of the schooner 'Result', a ship ordered from Paul Rodgers & Co. by Thomas Ashburner & Co., Barrow.
