Description
subject : group of barefoot women in traditional dress, with three little girls shod and in white smocks, gathered at house corner. Pasted into this album are several articles referrring to a visit by Bigger and three colleagues from Rosapenna to Tory, Dunfanaghy, Gortahork, Gweedore and other places in that immediate area in August 1903. The Glasgow Gaelic Leaguer Stephen Gwynne was also in the region, collecting songs, together with the president of the Glasgow Gaelic League Denis Brogan, who was a native of Falcarragh. They were given the Courthouse in which to hold an impromptu feis on Friday 14th August, with a two hour programme of singing, dancing, fiddling and recitation. The words of 'A Nation Once Again', which they wanted to use as a finale instead of 'God Save Ireland' were found in Dunfanaghy Police Station, in a book beloging to the local sergeant, a native irish speaker from West Cork.. date : 1903-08

Notes
National Museums NI
National Museums NI holds over a million objects in the collection, as well as this we manage the records and associated images for each object through a working database. The national collection has been almost 200 years in the making, and we recognise that thinking about collecting and collections has evolved over this time and continues to evolve. As a result, some of our records may contain language and views that we now consider offensive and unacceptable, for example, reflecting racist attitudes. We are committed to addressing these issues, and to reviewing and updating our records accordingly. Working with researchers, communities and academic partners we are learning more about the stories behind objects, and we are committed to sharing these with our audiences. We welcome feedback.
