Description: black evening outfit with black velvet strapless boned bodice with small basque, which laces up C/F with black ribbon tying in a bow at waist, the ribbon threading through four pairs of gilt circles set with white paste. The bodice unzips at left side linen with black tricel. The skirt comprises four gathered layers of tulle over a straight underskirt with back slit, satin waistband. UK size : 10. Label woven black on white "BELLVILLE SASSOON / LORCAN MULLANY / MADE IN ENGLAND". From exhibition label, early 2000s Evening outfit, velevet bodice and tulle skirt, 1993 Lorcan Mullany (1953) A long, full, floating tulle skirt and a low cut, tightly fitting corset-like bodice remains one of the most successful formulae for evening wear because it is so flattering to most women. The strong contrast of black fabric with white paste adds drama to the outfit.
