1983
1983 - Black cire tight fitting below calf length dress, with long fitting set-in sleeves. High round neck front and back. Dress laces from hip level to neck c/f and above knee to neck at back. Fastening is by concealed zip down right shoulder seam with hooks near shoulder. Conical padded breasts at front with circular seaming. Dress is fitted with shoulder to hem seams mid A and left front and mid A and left back. Lacing is backed with self fabric at back, unbacked at front. Lined throughout with tricel, some black, some dark red. Label printed gold on black with motif 'ANTHONY PRICE'. From exhibition label early 2000s 'Disciplinary' dress, black cire, padded and laced, 1983 Antony Price (1945-) Antony Price designed for Stirling Cooper and Plaza before starting his own label in 1979. He created the image for 'Roxy Music' and its singer Bryna Ferry. This dress was won at Price's spectacular Camden Plaza 'Fashion Extravaganza' show in 1983. His designs are often outrageous and ahead of their time - his conical bust designs predated those of Gaultier by years. Antony Pirce outfits are often worn by extrovert show business personalities, partly because they have such impact, and also because they are cleverly constructted and beautifully made.

- National Museums NI
National Museums NI holds over a million objects in the collection, as well as this we manage the records and associated images for each object through a working database. The national collection has been almost 200 years in the making, and we recognise that thinking about collecting and collections has evolved over this time and continues to evolve. As a result, some of our records may contain language and views that we now consider offensive and unacceptable, for example, reflecting racist attitudes. We are committed to addressing these issues, and to reviewing and updating our records accordingly. Working with researchers, communities and academic partners we are learning more about the stories behind objects, and we are committed to sharing these with our audiences. We welcome feedback.
