design : Red and black checked wool day jacket. To go with T2921 (polo neck top) and T2922 (black skirt) From exhibition label, early 2000s Checked wool jacket with wool and elastic skirt, 1987 Jean Paul Gaultier (1952-) Gaultier's catwalk shows were often jokey and showed extreme punk-inspired designs, which gave him the reputation of an 'enfant terrible'. However, his stock ready-to-wear clothes show his design skills. The show great undertsnading of fabrics and tailoring, and combine wearability with a spark of the unexpected. This outfit was the Ulster Museum designer outfit of Autumn Winter 1987. The jacket sold out almost as soon as it appeared in the shops.
