- This red and blue coatee was worn by an officer of the Aghnahoe Infantry. The salmon pink collar is of the 'Prussian' type which hooks up all the way. The gorget buttons are on lengths of silver lace. The shoulder wings are the chain type, the links getting large on the point. The edges are outlined with silver braid and there is a silver fringe. The lapels run to the waist and have ten buttons in pairs, the top six of which are on lengths of silver lace. The front hooks up when the lapels are folded back. The dummy turnback starts at the waist and ends on the front of the tail. It has a sequin and bullion bugle horn decoration. The dummy pocket flap has two pairs of buttons on lengths of embroidery. The round cuffs have four buttons on lengths of silver lace. The buttons are silver, with no makers name, and bear on an outer ribbon an inscription with a crowned 'GR' on the inside.

National Museums NI holds over a million objects in the collection, as well as this we manage the records and associated images for each object through a working database. The national collection has been almost 200 years in the making, and we recognise that thinking about collecting and collections has evolved over this time and continues to evolve. As a result, some of our records may contain language and views that we now consider offensive and unacceptable, for example, reflecting racist attitudes. We are committed to addressing these issues, and to reviewing and updating our records accordingly. Working with researchers, communities and academic partners we are learning more about the stories behind objects, and we are committed to sharing these with our audiences. We welcome feedback.
