Sword : Samurai : and sheath
Description
Imperial Japanese Army officer's sword. It has a polished steel blade of traditional pattern, a gilt guard decordated with flowers, a handle bound with tape, showing three metal flowers, and a metal pommel with a swivel for a wrist thong of dark brown tape. The scabbard is lacquered wood, leather covered, with a European type ring for the frog. The sword was collected during the Japanese surrender at Bidor in Northern Malaya. It was given to A.T Ball as a war trophy - see BELUM.W2022.129 for certificate.
