Description
Lidded gourd with globular body narrowing at top, which has been entirely encased in twined split root (probably Freycinetia arborea) in colours of black, brown and cream, now faded. Round the neck of the lower gourd is the remains of olona cord mesh which originally would have secured the lid. Such containers could hold food and water or be used to store fishing lines
