Lightships or lightvessels are ships that act as lighthouses when waters are too deep or conditions are unsuitable for lighthouse construction. This collection contains logbooks about Skullmartin Rock.
Contents include: a logbook August 29th, 1898 - March 31st, 1899, for the ‘Brilliant’ lightship at Skullmartin Rock, a mile off the coast of Ballywalter, containing such information as the initials of men on watch, times of lighting and extinguishing, general remarks about the weather, ship passings, local climate conditions, signatures of men in charge, etc.; a log for the same lightship and location, December 25th, 1901 - July 4th, 1902; logbook for Skullmartin Rock for the lightship ‘Cormorant’ from July 5th, 1902, until, February 1st, 1903.
