John Airey joined the RAF at Aldergrove before joining British Rail in 1955. He had a particular interest in steam trains and this collection contains pamphlets from the Ian Allen ABC Locomotive Series; Facts and Figures about British Railways Series published by the British Transport Commission, journal of the Transport Salaried Staff Association, British Railways books and manuals on fire safety, working instructions and rules, a cigarette picture card album, a manuscript, "The Readers Indigestion or Leap Before You Look. Component Servicing Record L.M. 300" on early G.N.R. passenger engines and lists of L.N.R. and B.R. built engines. There are also pamphlets/leaflets on miscellaneous subjects such as Guy "Arab" buses, the Eastern National Omnibus Line, G.N.R., C.I.E. timetables and an envelope containing menus and photographs for Union-Castle Line ships, The Kenya Castle and Athlone Castle.
