Scope and content: Letter from John Cleland to his aunt and uncle. John mentions meeting the surgeon, 'a countryman of my own', who went with him to get John's conduct money (£5; 15s; 6d.) which will not be enough to cover John's expenses. The surgeon also purchased John's bedding for him. Talks of travelling to the Baltic soon and their daily allowances on the ship. Sent from the HMS Gorgon to Ballynahinch.
