Letter from John Cleland to his mother. John says that he has withdrawn the sum of eighteen guineas so that he could pay off his debt. He says he is paid every eighty-four days at the Bank of Yarmouth. He talks of the fleet sailing to the Baltic tomorrow, and him receiving his uniform - a blue coat with a neck like a waistcoat, a button and button hole of gold lace, one row of buttons on the breast and three buttons on the flap of the pocket, a waist coat of white ... and anchor buttons. In total the uniform cost £18 18s, with John's instruments for his surgery costing £25. Sent from the HMS Gorgon off Yarmouth to Downpatrick.
