Scope and content
Letter from John Cleland to his mother. John writes that he is comfortable in Carlscrona. He says that no much happened on their journey from Yarmouth on the 12th May, except for them seizing two Danish ships loaded with barley and brandy valued at £5,000, which they sent into Gottenburg. He says they expect that the Swedish ports will soon be shut against the Royal Navy as the Russian army is three days' march from the Swedish capital with their fleet (consisting of twelve sail-of-the-line and a great number of frigates) coming to attack it by sea. Sent from HMS Gorgon off Carlscrona to Downpatrick.
