Scope and content
Letter from John Cleland to his brother. John says he is relieved that his sisters and cousins have recovered from 'the malady which so often proves fatal to youth.' He says he is being paid 6s. 6d. per day, expecting it to increase but he cannot complain as it is higher than what other officers recieve. He says his ship is heading out to the Baltic soon but that recently he is hardly aboard her. Sent from the HMS St George at Portsmouth to Downpatrick.
