Letter from John Cleland to his uncle, Will. Lightbody. Details his study of medicine in Glasgow (three days of anatomy and surgery from 2 to 3 o'clock, midwifery from 11 to 12, and chemistry from 7 to 8). He says he is lodged in Master Henderson's place in High Street. Speaks of an operation in the infirmery on 16h November where he saw a lump the size of a large duck's egg cut out of a girl's cheek, and that John is due to cut up three or four men soon. He praises Glasgow and says if his brother Hugh learns to read well he will bring him a copy of Aesop's Fables. Sent from Glasgow to Ballynahinch, Co. Down.
