Letter from John Cleland to his brother, Hugh. John writes that he recieved a letter from M. Croker telling John that he had applied to the Transport Board on his behalf, and is now confident that he shall be promoted upon his return to England if not before. He says war is expected soon between France and Russia, with Napoleon demanding the Russians give up their fortified towns on the Baltic coast. John says the Russians have not sent naval stores in return for the ammunition and arms which the Royal Navy sent them. John mentions the loss of a frigate in the gulf of Finland a fortnight ago, and that the ship daily expects to be sent back to England.
