Scope and content: Letter to John's brother, Hugh. John writes that the fleet have sailed to St. Helens and are waiting for other ships to arrive before returning to their old station in the Baltic [likely referring to the island of Hano]. Writes that McRobert has not been made surgeon. John says that he is happy to hear that his brother and sister are at school, and asks Hugh to inform him if they are diligent and attentive to their books so that John may send them a present after his return from the Baltic.
