Scope and content
Letter to John's mother. Talks of a W. Anderson being appointed 'surgion' to a frigate, where he would be paid 13 shillings and sixpence a day, but how he now intends to set up a shop in London. Also says A. Hamilton has been appointed as hospital mate. John notes that Hugh [his brother] has improved his writing very much since he went to Downpatrick. Postscript asks if Hugh is at Mr Nelson's school or not. Sent from Glasgow to William Cleland at Drumaghlish, Ballynahinch, Co Down.
