Dr George Barton Thompson OBE (6 August 1925 - 2 August 2021) was appointed as the first Director of the Ulster Folk Museum. He retired in 1986 and was awarded a Doctor of Science by Queen’s University, Belfast, and a Doctor of Letters by Ulster University.
