A collection of school textbooks, exercise workbooks, teaching and study aids, examination papers, personal notebooks and planners belonging to Noel Longford Boyd, a teacher and Vice Principal at Brownlee Primary School in Lisburn from the 1940s until his retirement at the end of the 1960s. Boyd trained at Stranmillis College and Queen’s University and served with the R.A.F. during World War Two. Contents include books on arithmetic, arts & crafts, English composition, language and literature, geography, history, music and sight reading, physical exercise, nature study, poetry, science, spelling with specific titles including a series ‘Life In’ Canada, China, the USA, and the USSR. There are also several bundles of assorted papers marked ‘A.L. Echo Test Cards’, ‘Teaching and Related Notes’, ‘Weekly Plans and Programmes’, ‘Class Records’, ‘Organisation of Lessons’, ‘Questions and Exercises’, ‘School Administration’ and ‘Stationery Records’ Other items: BBC ‘Notes for Teachers’, RBAI disciplinary slips, leaflets for the Teachers Union and National Association of Schoolmasters, papers for admission to Grammar Schools, first and second intelligence tests and arithmetic at Lisburn Central Primary. Many of these are contained in envelopes addressed to Longford N. Boyd in Finaghy. Also contains books belonging to the wider Boyd family, including Charles Boyd, a pupil at First Derry National School and Hilary Boyd.
