- Letter to John's brother, Hugh re. letter received from sister Margaret
- Scope and content
- John writes that he received a letter from his sister on the 25th and is happy that his friends are well, stating not much has happened to him. He has received word that the Russians will have seven more ships launched at the beginning of the month, making the total twenty-three. He also said that all the appearances of a Swedish war have vanished, with the country folk nearby admitting that if they were forced to declare war on Britain they would only have defeated themselves. Also mentions that 'another Nelson is placed in his father's parish.' This item also includes a second letter to Margaret, scolding her for her terrible handwriting in the last letter she send him, stating that he could barely read it. Sent from the HMS St. George off Hano to Hugh Cleland at Downpatrick
