Sam Hanna Bell was a significant figure in the cultural and intellectual life of Belfast, an accomplished writer and broadcaster who helped transform local BBC programmes. Contents include: transcripts of radio programmes (1950s-1960s) including, “The Country Bard”, a selection of ballads written by poets of the countryside, "It's a Brave Step," where Sam Deton and Michael Baguley talk and listen to music with people of various districts, edited by Sam Hanna Bell, “Rathlin Island”, “Fairy Faith”, “Ghosts, Charms & Cures”, and “Country Window”. Also present are handwritten notes and typescripts on legends and fairy stories from children; interview notes on fairy lore and folklore throughout Ulster; poems sent to "It's a Brave Step" series; Mat Mulcathey's story competition for schoolchildren and poetry and correspondence from various writers to Sam Hanna Bell.
