Description
A late 16th century bed valance, circa 1580. Late 16th century bed valances of the French type commonly portrayed stories in contemporary dress. This valance displays courtly figures situated in front of gardens The Art of Embroidery, (Synge, 2001). There are 12 figures in contemporary dress, including a child with their arms around a dog. Detailed gardens including finely trimmed greenery, buildings and countryside can be observed extending throughout the background of the valance.
