The Lanto Synge collection of textiles was gifted to the Ulster Museum by the collector, textile historian, and former director of Mallett PLC, Lanto Millington Synge. The collection spans the sixteenth to twenty-first centuries and includes some items that are extremely rare, unusual and of superb quality. A wide range of historic embroidery is represented, from crewelwork bed curtains to samplers, and from needlework pictures to fine Indian export coverlets.
This significant acquisition to the Ulster Museum’s collection has been accepted under the Cultural Gifts Scheme by HM Government from Lanto Synge and allocated to National Museums NI, 2023.
