Library and Archives

The museum has an excellent library and sound archive, designed to enable research by both museum staff and others.

The Library collections mirror the specific areas of focus within our museums. Significantly, the history of the Ulster Folk Museum is captured here. Archival material tells the stories of each of the buildings and spaces in this outdoor museum. These collections, meticulously curated by experts since the early 1960s, hold unparalleled significance.

Learn more about our dedicated research space, full of valuable heritage collections concerning the history and culture of Ulster and beyond.

In addition to books and manuscripts, the museum has collected moving images and audio histories over the years. This material is currently being digitised to enable all researchers to view this historical portal into our past from where they are. Currently the Living Linen Project records are available for browsing.

The Library and Archives team are adding the books and archival collections to Collections Online, with over 20,000 book records now available to search using the advanced search options (click the “Show search options” link just below the search bar at the top of the page). Over 6000 archival records can also be viewed on the Browse our archive page.
