Sculptures
The modernist sculptor, Barbara Hepworth, travelled to Greece after the Second World War. Curved Form (Delphi), 1955, part of Ulster Museum’s impressive sculpture collection, was inspired by her time there.
This is just one of the many pieces in the collection that allow a privileged glimpse into the experience of the artist. Other favourites from the 20th century include the undulating figures of Henry Moore, and the surreal, and often moving, work of F.E. McWilliam.
The collection also includes the challenging assemblages of Anthony Caro and Philip King, abstract sculptures by Isamu Noguchi, and bronzes by Barry Flanagan. Local work, such as Rosamund Praeger’s Fairy Fountain, 1901, are also featured.
Our collection of earlier work traces the development of sculpture before the 20th century, through a series of busts of important local figures, created in the 18th and 19th centuries.
