Description

Stereoscope Photograph showing a view of British soldiers firing over ridge. '‘In a firing bay at Passchendaele we repulse repeated Bosche counter-attacks of great fury.' There may well have been up to 400,000 British casualties (dead, wounded, captured or missing) in this notorious campaign, known also as the 3rd Battle of Ypres. Between July and September, notoriously wet conditions often made the battlefield into a quagmire.
