Shield : battle
Description
Light wooden shield of concave section, the handle being formed of a branch protruding through the front of the shield. One elongated end has been mended with a wrapping of fibre and black gum. Decoration consists of row upon row of sharp zig-zags running horizontally with a plain band 20 mm wide scooped out at either end and across the middle. The grooves are filled with red ochre and the running chevrons are filled with white pipe clay.
