- Scope and content
- In 1952, Samuel Darragh McGredy (Sam) inherited his family business of rose growing and breeding, based at Royal Nurseries in Portadown. He opened Northern Ireland's first garden centre in Derriaghy in 1966, which featured a display garden of 16,00 roses and sold containerised rose plants rather than the traditional dry root. This archive contains McGredy's rose catalogues donated by Andrea Symington, whose husband, Robin, worked at the garden centre in a managerial position, and from Francis O'Dowda. Additional relevant items are also included.
