Title: Sea Fishing Boat Registrations
Scope and content: Register of sea fishing boats for Annalong, Belfast, Kilkeel and Newry prepared for the Sea Fisheries Act of 1868, which required that all British vessels used for commercial fishing, regardless of size, should have official papers and be recorded in separate fishing boat registers kept at the local port of registry, and the Merchant Shipping Act 1894, which reinforced previous legislation.
Michael McCaughan compiled the information from the original registers held in Newry Customs House in the 1970s.
