Mackie was a Belfast based industrial firm, established in 1846 and in 1858, became James Mackie & Sons LTD, before becoming Mackie International and Lummus Mackie. The company ended operations in 1999 but evolved into Springvale Foundry in 2001. They were an international company, with operations in India and Libya, among others. Notably then-President of the United States of America, Bill Clinton, made a speech at their Belfast site in 1995. This collection provides us with an insight into the machinery produced by the company and allows us a glimpse into what was one of the biggest employers in Belfast.
